Lovely Living

It has been almost 3 years since we’ve first had the pleasure of working in this large and beautifully renovated home in central Connecticut.  At that time we were asked to pick color for all the interior spaces, which was a challenge in this open floor plan home with large rooms and cathedral ceilings.  That challenge has been successfully met and gratefully we have been asked to continue the process of making this large house a cozy home.

We have designed the large family room with gorgeous, comfortable furnishings, including a custom built table and custom upholstery, pillows, cushions and drapery.   Around the pool deck, we’ve created a tropical oasis (see Touch of Tropics) and currently we are busy renovating the large lower level which can only be described as the addition of a small home.  That is a blog for another day.

Our latest has been the transformation of the family’s living room.  The room is open to the main foyer and was mostly empty, with the exception of the piano.  It was already off to a great start with a lovely double sided fireplace and built in bookshelves, we just need to add some ‘WoW!’

We started with choosing wallpaper. A beautiful Candice Olson ogee print with soft beige and a touch of blush set the tone for our monochromatic color scheme. We added an incredibly soft cut design rug in a glowing champagne color. Our furniture pieces consisted of two sets of contrasting style chairs.

Two tuxedo chairs sit in front of the window and ground the space much as a sofa would. These chairs are in a soft solid with lots of style coming from the tufted back and nailhead detail which mimics the pattern in the rug.

Our other two chairs are smaller in scale with a curved mid century shape and ‘barely there’ animal print and contrast welt. A shapely leather ottoman acts as a cocktail table and hung above is an oversized geometric chandelier which glows in gold making for lots of added drama.

Outside the room we’ve added a touch of our wallpaper under the curved stairs. This space will continue to evolve as we are set to add a gorgeous custom rug that will be cut to fit the shape of this gracious entry. That is also a story for another day.
